Tonight at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swifttook the stage to play “Lover” for the first-time ever. The acoustic and subdued performance followed an elaborate “You Need to Calm Down” show opener, where she was accompanied by a huge team of dancers in front of some fireworks, rainbows, and the words “equality act.” Watch it all happen below.
It marked her first televised performance since the release of her new album Lover and her first time performing at the VMAs since 2015. For her performance of “You Need to Calm Down,” Taylor was joined by Todrick Hall, who starred in the single’s music video.
Taylor Swift was the most-nominated artist at the 2019 VMAs, tied with Ariana Grande with 10 nods each. She took home the Video of the Year award for her recent single “You Need to Calm Down.”
